Welcome to I was a Teenage Fundamentalist. An Exvangelical podcast. We’re excited to share our stories and create a conversation around deconstructing and reconstructing our pasts. This blog post accompanies our introductory episode, offering insight into what this podcast is all about.
Our main goal is to create a space for conversation by sharing our personal stories. We realized that our experiences, whether funny or difficult, were worth sharing. We hope these stories resonate with you, help you process your own experiences, and maybe even offer some healing.
It’s important to clarify that we are not anti-Christian. Instead, we aim to call out the problematic aspects while also celebrating the good. We believe that being able to deconstruct and understand your past is essential for personal growth.
This is a question we get asked frequently, but it’s difficult to answer. Both of us are on ongoing journeys and prefer to focus on reflecting on what we believed in the past. We believe that by listening to our stories, you can understand our perspectives and how we respond to different situations. Context is key. We’re looking at our past through the lens of the present, acknowledging that our beliefs and understanding have evolved.
We’ve chosen to remain anonymous to protect our professional and family lives. Anonymity is also important for those we talk about, as our stories may not accurately reflect who they are now. We recognize that people change, and we don’t want to cause hurt or shame by pointing fingers. Similarly, we want to avoid being defined solely by the stories we share, especially when they make us look foolish.
Sometimes we use initials or create composite characters. This means that historical accuracy isn’t the primary focus; instead, we aim to capture the spirit of the story. If you recognize yourself in any of our stories, it’s likely coincidental.
Keep in mind that the production quality improves as the episodes progress. We also plan to include guests in future episodes. We encourage you to join our Facebook group for discussions or follow our Facebook page for updates. This is intended to be a healing environment where everyone is welcome to reflect and move forward.
The podcast is evolving, and our focus will shift over time. We invite you to join us on this journey and evolve with us. Start with episode one and work your way forward. We hope you enjoy journeying with us!
